Public Pools & Beaches

POOLS AND BEACHES

QVHD permits and inspects public swimming pools in the District. Examples of public pools are swimming facilities located at country clubs, hotels, schools, town recreational areas, camps and condominiums. Water samples are routinely collected from the public bathing area in the Town of Bethany to assess sanitary water quality. Sampling usually begins after Memorial Day and continues until Labor Day.

COVID-19: RE OPENING POOLS UPDATE FROM QVHD (May 21, 2020)

NOTICE TO PUBLIC POOL OPERATORS

Public Pools are not included in the outdoor recreation activities that were allowed to open on  May 20, 2020. We understand the opening date for public pools will be included in phase 2 of Governor’s plan to reopen Connecticut. The tentative date is approximately June 20, 2020, but that is subject to change.

You will be receiving your annual pool license renewal application soon. The license will have to be renewed before you can open. You are encouraged to implement your normally scheduled annual pool start-up procedures and conduct adequate maintenance and cleaning of the pool.

Additional information will be provided once received from the Governor’s Office and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
